The papers include research notes, correspondence, photocopies and cuttings relating to the fifth edition of A Genealogical History of Pioneer Families in Australia. The first four editions of the book were compiled by Mowle's father, P.C. Mowle. The correspondents were members of the families whose histories appeared in the book. Copies of some of Mowle's letters were also included.
